Holding A Light In The Darkness

The Great High Priest

Have you ever been hurt so badly that you just wanted to leave this planet and go be with Jesus NOW? That’s what a child wants to do when they’ve been terribly hurt or wounded and sometimes it’s what we want to do, even as adults. We have a soul that can be wounded deeply sometimes.

This world can be hard, and those we love and who are the very closest to us, can be the very ones that are the most hurtful to us. Many times, the more we love them, the less they love us.

For people who have no connection, no relationship and no real hope with the living God; I would expect the emotional attack to be almost too great for some to endure.

But for us who know the “great high priest,” we have a refuge, a lover of our soul and a comfort in our depression. Emotions can be controlled, but hurts are a little more difficult to ignore. The wounds of a friend or loved one, cuts deeper than any enemy we face.

Isaiah 53:3-5 says, “He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, [our] faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He [was] wounded for our transgressions, [He was] bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace [was] upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.”

Jesus experienced all this for us as a man, in a human body. And the Bible tells us that He did, so we would understand that we can carry these emotions to Him when we hurt. We don’t have to “carry our sorrows.” He did for us. We don;t have to “bear our griefs.” He did that too.

He said, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Jesus said this “seven times” in the gospels. Maybe that was to remind us, that for every day of the week, we can go to our “great high priest” and get the comfort we need when the grief, sorrows and heartaches tear at us like a lions teeth. That’s why he sent us the “Comforter.” Because His very Spirit must live in us, to help us overcome the intense hurt, sorrow and heartache, that happen to us many times in this lost and dying world.

What a wonderful help in time of need… Like the Apostle Paul said to the Hebrew people, “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

I’ll keep abiding in Him. I need His grace so much!
